Have you ever noticed that when you start making a big shift in your life, moving towards a cherished goal, working on a heart-centered project….that obstacles pop up out of nowhere? One thing that used to happen to me is every time I would start to really upgrade my exercise program, I would get injured or sick. Happened almost like clockwork.
A friend of mine has had a dream of moving to a certain location for many years. She and her husband share this goal, and time have taken big steps towards making the move. They both have friendships and business relationships with people in the Dream Location. Recently they got to the point where you have to really commit (aka "the point of no return"), or not. Like if you want to be a lucrative artist, you have to have an art teacher, supplies, and you have to practice your craft. If you want to be in business for yourself, you have to invest. If you want to move, it costs money. That’s when things get interesting.
It turns out rents are higher than expected. Then my friend learned that "people here are not used to paying for top quality." And then a local company closed down in her industry. The economy is bad. Her child was resisting the move. Could it be that God’s will was that she NOT move?
Of course not. This happens every time. What I learned from Christine Kane is that when you plant a seed, the first thing to come up is not the plant, it’s the DIRT!
And the dirt is what keeps people stuck, in jobs they hate, relationships that drain them, unhealthy finances, overweight, or trying to forget the desires of their hearts.
Last year when I more than doubled my income, I stopped receiving alimony ahead of schedule. Now I see it was obvious I was growing into my new financial independence, but I assure you that at that time it didn’t feel very supportive….I had counted on receiving that income as well.
Any time you grow yourself, you step into a larger leadership role, you are upsetting the apple cart, so to speak. Other people are used to your playing small, and they often feel uncomfortable (or threatened) when you decide to stand up for yourself, to go into business, to invest in real estate, to get coaching. But it’s not just other people, it’s like the whole world shifts when you do!
Ultimately, it’s your decision. Do you allow circumstances to distract your from your dreams, or do you see these challenges as the natural indications that you ARE meant to dazzle?
