The world really does need your brilliance, right now.
This is straight from the September edition of Mixonian Institute News.
Be careful what you ask for, and if you’re asking for big success in some area of your life, get ready for it to happen. Here’s how it’s unfolded here.
Last December, Ruben and I were talking and somehow the conversation shifted to conducting and conductors (he’s a world-class violinist for those who don’t know.) Then he said, "You know, I’d really like to do some conducting again." In February, he got a call to guest-conduct a youth orchestra for 4 or 5 weeks. He loved it. Then at the end of August, he was named Director of the Youth Orchestra of the Low Country, aka YOLOW. Fortunately, he was ready. He had his ideas clear, his baton in hand and a vision for creating impact in this region through this youth orchestra.
Last September I was looking at our local paper and saw a section on Women in Business. "How cool would it be, to be profiled in this section of the paper." Yep, that’s right. A couple of weeks ago I was called to set up an interview as someone nominated to appear in the Moultrie News Women In Business special issue. Fortunately I was prepared. I had a great professional photo ready and I had my message clear. The only downside was Christina’s telling me that the article made me appear much more interesting than I really was. 😉
If you want change or transformation in any area of your life then prepare for it. That preparing builds your confidence and you’ve probably realized by now that you’ll generally achieve the level of success that you expect.
"The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams." Eleanor Roosevelt.
Here are 3 ways you can prepare for your success:
1. Imagine several options of what your next level of success looks like. This is what I do and what I share with clients. I make a list finishing this sentence 20 times "wouldn’t it be wonderful if …." A variation of that is to write a letter to God and suggest several ways your desire(s) could be manifested. Be specific. If you want new clients, what are some ways they might find you?
2. Do something to prepare for the next level of success. One thing I share with all my clients is the importance of having a great professional photo taken and ready. Besides looking better on Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, etc., you might get asked to make a presentation and they want a photo, or you might get interviewed for the local paper. The paper has its own photographer, but having your photo ready is proactive leadership. If you want new clothes, throw out your old ones. If you want to have a personal assistant, starting writing out the tasks you will delegate to that person.
3. Spend more time with people who are ahead of you in that area of your life. As you spend more time with people who have loving relationships with others, positive attitudes toward money and are physically healthy, it becomes second nature for you to do the same. Join a mastermind, Toastmasters, church group or ask someone to mentor you. It’s because of the mirror neurons that you will become like the people you spend the most time with.
