Recent jobs reports indicated only 96,000 jobs have been created nationwide while over 300,000 people have given up looking for work. Some "experts" say these people have been "forced to stop looking for jobs." It’s definitely a different job market from what it was even 5 years ago, but finding good jobs is definitely do-able. Finding a great job may take more time, creativity and getting out there to talk to people, but that mission (or meeting your sales quota or whatever) is definitely more than possible!
Our beliefs have the power to change the flow of events in the universe — literally to interrupt and redirect time, matter, and space, and the events that occur within them. Gregg Braden.
Mixonian Institute is not (YET) conducting its own scientific research. We do share our trusted sources of research that help you get better results at work, while enjoying the process. It’s a fact that beliefs, which form the fundamental programming of your current life, have a lot to do with what is possible for you. Change your beliefs, change your results, only it’s almost impossible to detect your own unhelpful beliefs without being willing to step out of your comfort zone and possible look ridiculous for a few minutes.
Now that the iPod 5 is out, recall the first iPod. Can you remember life before the iPod? I’m still marveling how this little device is considered a necessity of life. (Just ask any teenager!) When the first one came out it had 1 giga of storage space and that was considered phenomenal, almost miraculous. Now there is one with 32 giga. Can you imagine telling the team that created the first Ipod, "Listen, 1 giga is fantastic, but why don’t you put in 32 giga instead?" At that point, 32 giga was not possible for the iPod creators. Today it’s ancient history.
Here’s another example: When the railroad industry was in its infancy, the scientific community strongly believed that if a train traveled faster than 30 miles per hour, any human body inside the train would explode.
And every single breakthrough, of any sort or category, began as a crazy idea in someone’s mind, someone who dared to imagine an alternate reality and take action on it.
Changing beliefs is a huge topic and one Mixonian Institute covers extensively in F2F: Make it Happen workshops and Clarity Coterie. While there’s not space in any blog post to do it justice, here are some suggestions to serve your own exploration of what it means to live an amazing, abundant life.
The foundation: If you think it’s impossible for you, it really is.
How to find your beliefs (ideas you hold to be true) that aren’t serving you:
1. Recognize that there’s a whole lot that you don’t know and you don’t know what you don’t know. (You might want to reread that!)
Another way to put this is to live your life as an experiment, not as a crusade.
The best way I know to approach this is to accept that everything you know to be true might not be absolutely 100% correct. Have you ever been wrong before? See what I mean?
Pretend it’s possible and write down steps that would (theoretically) make it happen. Then start doing stuff on the list.
2. Examine your excuses, especially the ones you don’t say to anyone except yourself.
I used to have a lot of great reasons to be overweight. In fact they were all true: hereditary was the key word. Today my struggle to lose weight is only a vague memory.
Other common excuses I hear from clients are the ones you know as well: no time, no money, money corrupts, I’m not a good speaker, X is out to get me, etc.
These things about yourself that you know to be true. Pretend just for a short while that they aren’t, and see how that feels. What actions would you take in this case?
3. Study other paradigm breakers — the ones who are most like you.
In my case personally, I love to read about great entrepreneurs But I especially love to learn about those who didn’t start in poverty (e.g. Donald Trump, Ted Turner,) because I certainly didn’t either. And while a wealthy upbringing has undeniable advantages, most people who break income barriers in a significant way come from modest homes, financially speaking.
Your beliefs are the bridge between your imagination and your reality. What would you like to be true in your life?
4. Take action!!! You cannot just dream and wish for things. Take action, do something, even when you have NO idea if it’s the right thing to do or not. Just do it!
