If you are often mistaken for Angelina Jolie, or Brad Pitt, you do not need to read this. You are already insanely attractive. For the rest of us, here’s your Free Attractiveness Booster. It’s free and it works and it’s related to gratitude.
Consider this. Is a person, anyone, say you, more attractive when feeling cranky, grumpy, depressed, anxious or whining? Or is that person, say you, more attractive when feeling happy, relaxed, smiling for no good reason?
Gratitude is not only expressing appreciation for what you have, but it implicitly states an expectation of amazingly good things to come.
If you look closely at any successful person’s profile, you see time and time again how that person got repeated “lucky” breaks, or was in the right place at the right time.
Just in time for Thanksgiving Day, here’s the thing about gratitude. Research unequivocally supports the relationship between expression of gratitude and feelings of happiness. That’s because gratitude forces you to direct your attention to what is working in your life, instead of dwelling on your problems. You’re always going to have both blessings and problems, it’s what you pay attention to that moves you forward, or not. Here’s how you can tap into this fierce energy of gratitude:
9+ Ways to Leverage Gratitude:
1. Realize that gratitude brings you to the present moment.
Being present lowers your stress level instantly(!) and makes you more accessible to others. At the same time, with no effort. Lower stress = longer life + more health + more happiness. What else can you ask for?
Plus, stress is really bad for your communication.
2. Gratitude for your audience displaces (largely), nervousness about speaking to a group.
If you’re present with your audience, you don’t have to worry about feeling confident. (Presence trumps confidence.) You simply share what is important to you with them.
3. Gratitude for your clients and your Boss builds your career.
And…Mixonian Institute is EXTREMELY grateful to all our clients and readers. Thank you! Showing your Boss Gratitude is a recommended practice. Try it and see what happens.
4. Gratitude shifts your energy UP.
Higher energy attracts people and experiences of a similar level to you. (The birds of a feather syndrome.) High energy is magnetic!
5. Gratitude puts you in the frame of mind to take more action.
This is related to #5. More actions = more results = more learning = more success.
6. Gratitude improves morale.
The #1 reason a person quits the job is not feeling appreciated. Studies show that employees value feeling appreciated more than higher salaries. A pay raise is one way to show gratitude but there are many others that cost less money.
7. Gratitude improves productivity. Productive people are more attractive.
See # 1, 4, 5 and 6.
8. Gratitude extends the length and quality of your life.
And it’s free!
9. Gratitude is fun.
Get together with your family or your work team and compose a long list, maybe of 100 items, for which you are grateful. Family and health are off limits for your list as being cliché. My kids have expressed gratitude for things like Taylor Swift or having finished a certain math class. Diving into what you like in your life is a huge energy-shifter.
Gratitude bonus: Try writing a note, real one on paper or an email, to a different person each day over the next four weeks. Express your gratitude to the person in the note and see what happens!
